Rotating Protein Sources

Nearly everyone is aware protein is good for our bodies – just in case lets go through a few important reasons why:

  • Protein is an essential component of every cell in the human body.
  • Hair & nails are mostly made of protein.
  • Our body uses protein to build and repair tissues.
  • You also use protein to make enzymes, hormones, and other body chemicals.
  • Protein is an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin & blood.

We all have our favourite sources, however some will eat a large amount of one particular protein source to ensure they are meeting their requirements for protein intake. While consuming adequate protein is always a good thing, relying on only one sole protein source to obtain all of your protein isn’t ideal. A better option is option is rotating your meats – eat a different protein source at each meal. For example for breakfast today I ate Salmon & Eggs, then meal two I had white fish (Dory), meal three was beef, meal 4 chicken and for dinner tonight I will have turkey.

By eating a variety of protein sources you will ensure you are getting a balance of all the different amino acids. Different proteins that are rich in certain amino acids and deficient in others – eating a variety will ensure you get adequate intake of all the amino acids.
