Lessons in Fat Loss 2016

Each year I like to think that my knowledge & skills as a trainer improves. After 5 years of actively pursuing growth I realize there is never an end to the journey of self improvement. The more I learn, the more I realize there is so much out there I don’t know, so much that I have to learn. In the fitness game, this involves some trail and error – here’s a list of things I have leant in 2016 that were effective for losing body fat:

  1. Don’t eat carbs on days your don’t work out or days you train legs.
  2. Do cardio after leg day – it is every bit as horrible as it sounds but it worked for me.
  3. Less than 20 seconds of time under tension has little effect on body fat. Tension, tension & then 20 seconds of more tension – lactic acid is body fats worst enemy!
  4. The StairMaster or climbing stairs will get your legs leaner quicker faster than other forms of low intensity cardio.
  5. Take Yohimbine pre workout, but not for too long – I like 2 weeks on 2 weeks off.
  6. Eat a variety of protein sources daily.
  7. Listen to your body: the old cliche that I believe will always hold true – feeling sore, run down, lethargic? Your body is telling you to rest & recover. The energy you have the following day is boundless & your workout after a rest day
  8. Eat vegetables at every meal.
  9. Add coconut oil to every meal.
  10. Never cut out things you love. If they are unhealthy, keep the to a minimum. Balance is essential!
