The Detox

Juice Detox, Tea Detox, Veggie Detox… The word Detox has always been associated with health or weight loss. The most common time for people to “detox” is after a holiday period or after a few weeks hitting the booze hard! If done correctly a detox can be very effective in cleansing the body – done incorrectly you can lower immune system function, lose muscle tissue and raise inflammation. My good friend Jackson created this detox based on the teachings of Charles Poliquin and the fundamentals of Function Medicine. I believe it covers all aspects necessary to be most effective – the detox lasts 7 days:

Guidelines:

  • You need to be active everyday – resistance training, cardio, yoga
  • Drink an abundance of water with lime – 3 liters minimum
  • Ensure vitamin D levels are adequate – get some sun
  • Nap when necessary, and when possible (its important!)

Supplements you’ll need:

  • BCAA’s (Branched Chain Amino Acids)
  • EAA’s (Essential Amino Acids)
  • Plant-based/vegan Protein
  • Glutamine
  • Probiotic
  • Zinc
  • Multi-vitamins
  • Resveratrol
  • Curcumin
  • Magnesium
  • Fish Oil
  • Fibre

Yes, it’s a lot but remember you aren’t eating food, in particular protein, so the essential amino acids & nutrients need to come from somewhere.

Upon Rising-

* 2 x Probiotic

*10g EAA’s

*10g BCAA

*5g Glutamine

 

Meal 1- 

* 2 x scoops of Vegan Protein (if you feel your hungry you can up it to 3 scoops, this applies to every time you have it)

* 10 g glutamine

* 2 x Curcumin

* 1 x Resveratrol

* 2 x multi-vitamin

* 3 x zinc

* 2 teaspoons of coconut oil

* 10 grams of fibre

* 1 Green Tea

 

Meal 2- 

* Create green juice (tastes good blended with lemon and crushed ice)

* 10g BCAA’s

*10g EAA’s

* 5 ml of fish oil

* 1 serve of broccoli with lemon/salt pepper on it

 

Meal 3-

Meal 6- 

* Create green juice (tastes good blended with lemon and crushed ice)

Vegetables can be steamed or pan fried in coconut oil – do not overcook, close to raw is best, or juiced (cold pressed juicer or Nutribullet work best) I recommend you rotate vegetables each day, or even each meal – keep it green! After the seven day Detox you begin eating carbohydrates in the form of steamed white rice, with every meal for the first day then once per day there after. I recommend you eat fresh fish as your protein source, at every meal for the seven days after the Detox, then after you may resume with chicken and red meats. The Detox is very challenging for most people but the results in the end speak for themselves, you’ll feel great and your digestive system and gut health will improve drastically.
