Bone Broth

As the saying goes “what’s old becomes new again”, and this is certainly true for Bone Broth – this time on the health & beauty scene. For thousands of years, there have been traditional foods like fermented vegetables that have been praised for their health benefits. But one common healing food that is now being recognized for its incredible health benefits is bone broth. Broth is easily and simply made by boiling bones (beef, lamb, chicken, fish, etc) in water with an acid (like vinegar) and optional spices and herbs.

The benefits of a daily dose of bone broth are numerous, here are my top 3:

Nutrient Absorbing: You are what you eat? More like you are what you absorb. Broth is a source of bio-available nutrients in an easy-to-digest form and its amino acid structure and high gelatin content makes it soothing and healing for the gut. It also enhances the absorption of nutrients from other foods.

Healthier skin, hair & nails: You are going to love this one ladies – Broth contains collagen, which supports hair, nail and skin growth, keeps the skin smooth, firm and reduces wrinkles.

Necessary Amino Acid: Broth is an excellent source of several important amino acids that are often difficult to get from diet alone. These include:

  • Proline: helps the body break down proteins and improves skin elasticity and smoothness.
  • Glycine: regulates Human Growth Hormone secretion from the pituitary gland and is used for the production of glutathione (portent anti-oxidant), for blood sugar regulation and digestion.
  • Arginine: Helpful for proper kidney function.
  • Glutamine: Gut health & healing.

These benefits have been well documented for years but you’ll only really appreciate them if you try it. I’ve been having a bone broth every morning with a squeeze of lemon as soon as I wake up in the morning for the last 10 days and have felt a noticeable difference.
