Methylene Blue is gaining attention for its potential to ease jet lag symptoms. Here’s why it might help and how to harness its full potential:
Boosts Energy Production: Methylene Blue acts as an electron carrier in mitochondria, enhancing ATP production. This can help combat the fatigue and sluggishness that come with crossing time zones, supporting your body’s ability to adjust to new schedules.
Reduces Oxidative Stress: Disrupted sleep and altered metabolism during travel can increase oxidative stress. Methylene Blue’s antioxidant properties neutralise harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS), potentially reducing brain fog and lethargy.
Supports Circadian Rhythm Adjustment: While direct evidence is limited, Methylene Blue’s role in enhancing cellular function and reducing inflammation may indirectly help your body’s internal clock adapt to new light-dark cycles.
Protects Cognitive Function: By improving cerebral blood flow and shielding neurons from stress, Methylene Blue may minimise jet lag-related issues like difficulty concentrating or mood swings.
Sample Protocol:
• 3 hrs before flight: 10mg
• After boarding: 5mg
• 1 hr before landing: 2.5mg
• Following morning: 10mg
Key Note: While Methylene Blue shows promise, direct evidence for its effectiveness on jet lag is limited. That being said, for me, on all 3 occasions (2 long-haul flights), Methylene Blue drastically reduced all my jet lag symptoms & I have had similar success with clients following a similar protocol using pharmaceutical-grade Methylene Blue.
